If you have recently been taken off my friends-list: it's nothing personal, I just feel rather overwhelmed by the amount of LJ I had to read, so I had to be quite harsh in who stayed on. I was probably still a bit too soft-hearted in some cases...
Once again I survive a clearance by virtue of not in any way adding to the work load.
Personally I've been exploring a much more efficient way of keeping down on the LJ reading, without any of the potential insult of defriending people: forget to put LJ on the college computer, wonder what website you're missing for a couple of months and look surprised to find this strange LJ thing when you return home to your computer. Turns out you can live without it, who'd have guessed?
By having several generations of friends one has refused to let go of. Having been all alone in the world once or twice makes me very leery of drifting away from *anyone*, but sometimes I have to fail to keep up with a couple of people quite so determinedly for the sake of my ongoing sanity.
