However, I also have a maths exam on my birthday. This does not, needless to say, make me a happy bunny.

Now, everything will be just fine so long as the 'take exams in college' thing just happens to all the exams even though I don't get extra time for maths. If they make me walk all the way to Senate House for 9am on my birthday for a maths exam, I will be even more unhappy.

Yes, I know everyone else has to put up with things happening miles away at 9am. That's not the point. (Or, well, it is the point, but I'm selfish, mmkay? And lazy.)

Today was about half as productive as it should have been, and I think that's a little on the optimistic side. After spodding from 8am to noon, I finally dragged myself to town in order to find walking shoes and a protractor. I managed the latter but the former only come in suede and Expensive. I wish I could just buy Another Pair Of The Shoes I Already Own And Like Very Much. I would pay quite a lot for them. However, nobody appears to be making anything remotely similar right now.

Then I went off to Cockroft Four to get Java Tick 4 done. After getting hopelessly side-tracked with making a 'better' (read - hacky, ugly and terrible) version of what I was doing, and working out what was making bluej hang (wouldn't close, wouldn't be killed, still seemed to work except for the closing bit...), I realised that it was almost 3pm, when I'd signed up to do the CLC 24-7 prayer thing for an hour because nobody else had as of that morning.

I went down to 25 Portugal Place, this time not getting hopelessly lost or nervous, and followed the signs down to the basement, where two people were finishing off the hour before. I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to pray for a whole hour, my current track record with prayer not being great, but I was determined to try. The others packed up and left, and a few minutes passed; then a lady I hadn't really met before came in and was very surprised to find me there, as she'd put her name down for this slot seeing it was empty on the lists up on the walls in the room (I'd only signed up that morning).

She bustled off again, and I thought nothing of it, and continued; wrote lots of stuff because the act of writing stuff down makes me think of things to pray about. Was just finishing a bit of poetry when she returned, apologised for being abrupt, and we sat and prayed together (mostly for the Summer Blast event and unity between Fusion and CICCU). She introduced herself and asked me who I was, and at about twenty past four she left again. I only noticed at that point that it was twenty past four, but decided that it was obvious the 4pm person wasn't coming along and so I should stay. Wrote some more things and pinned stuff up around the room, and about 5pm someone who was not the person who had signed up arrived, and then Geoff who had arrived, and we arranged to meet up this evening about cell group stuff and I left.

Went to Sainsburies to buy pitta bread. No pitta bread existed. The shelves were also pitifully empty of pre-sliced bread in bags, which might also have done. I got hot cross buns and white wheat tortillas, because they were bread-like substances with reasonably long sell-by-dates. Realised as I got to the checkout I probably should have got some cheese or ham or something to make lunches with. Looks like I'm in town tomorrow visiting Marika anyway, so will get some then.

Got back to college full of good intentions about tidying my room and doing some Probability work. Spodded. Ate. Spodded some more. It's now suddenly become 10:15pm and the back of my neck is making 'get off the computer now' noises.

I often had exams on my birthday too.

No pitta bread existed.

That's a pitty.

Try Gray's Sports, about three doors away from Sainsburys. The basement has shoes, and I've often found nice pairs of 'lightweight walking boots' (trainers with nice hard soles, and solid laces) - frequently on sale.

As for food tomorrow, I have a morning free, and I think I'll bring something substantial to D&D. If you can get me (expected) numbers by midday, that would be handy. (No idea what, yet, but I know your foibles).

Hmmmm... In that case, try the market shoe stall - the one that sells boots, not the one that sells fancy shoes. (They seem to be there about one day in two, but I've no idea which).

That or Open Air shoe shop, and get some solid leather ones (if you're doing it properly).

Edith reported on your state-of-consciousness. I'll do my best to take administrative burden off of you while you wake up this afternoon. I'll do something for food. Ought to decide what pronto.

I suggest you get the location of the Maths Exam clarified ASAP, since it will be more likely to be changeable earlier....

There's a particular period in the day where they mark down the day's bread before throwing it out and you can get really good bread cheaply. I forget when it is, though.

I too often have exams on my birthday. None this year though - just one the day before (Gramma's birthday).
I had a Canadian Studies exam on my birthday in first year though - maybe it's a first year thing?

Why on earth would they give you exams in college? (I can understand it if you were in a wheelchair, but you aren't). Is it so you can have extra time on some stuff without interfering with everyone else?

I've suffered the 'I just want another pair or these' problem with shoes: Marks and Sparks did trainers briefly, and very good (and reasonably priced) trainers they were. Sadly it seems that they decided that trainers were not in with their image and now only sell silly and quirky shoes (that's my theory anyway, maybe they just didn't sell well).

Hard luck with the exam timing. Just think how hard it is for us Girtonians though ;-) When is your b'day by the way?

Well done on praying for two whole hours!! And yes, it does get confusing (and highly irritating) when people don't turn up for their slot, especially late at night. I did a lot of late night emergency cover and security shifts for the last one, and only kept my job because everyone else in the office was on holiday, and so no-one saw me turning up at 10.30 in the morning having had 4 hours' sleep, or leaving randomly at 3.00 in the afternoon to lock up 25PP because the allotted person didn't show up. Maybe this explains why I wasn't too motivated to get involved this year...
