I guess today prolly deserves a writeup, although I'm rather too shattered to do it justice.
Decided to get the earlier train in the end, brief panic 'cos of not having enough time and not having any decent t-shirts to wear (I have *tons* of t-shirts but I hadn't done any ironing for ages... the only ones I had left wouldn't tuck into my jeans so were no use for this time of year - eventually I put on one that wasn't ironed 'cos I was gonna wear a jumper over it anyhow so it didn't really matter), phoned Naath to tell her my decision 'cos I didn't trust her to have been online, just as well I did 'cos she was still in bed. Dad drove me up to the station 'cos I felt rotten - my period started at 3am, of all the inconvenient times, and what's worse I didn't really notice until about ten past, so that was it for the night basically. Thankfully train was on time so I didn't have to wait around at the station hardly at all (deadly freezing seats).
Wrote some more of my Ravine post on the train, then hunted for Naath on the station, she wasn't around so I just sat down and then she turned up, having caught the bus. We had an hour before the film started so we wandered over to Millie's Cookies for double choc cherry cookies, then got pick'n'mix from the cheap shop near the cinema instead of paying the massively inflated cinema prices for sugary goodness. Got to the cinema about 20mins early, 'cos Naath got bored due to finishing her cookies too quickly and wanted to see when LotR would be out. All of the showings of Harry Potter today were sold out, but we'd expected that 'cos there were apparently only two showings left when Naath went to get tickets last week for today. Saw Mr Bramley, of all the scary sights - he correctly guessed we were there for Harry Potter, too.
After deriding the obligitory product ads, we were treated to a pretty good selection of trailers - LotR, which looks *way* cool on the pwetty-battle-scenes front, and SWII, which looks like a load of utter pants (bucketloads of nasty romantic rubbish getting in the way of the shiny 'sabre fights) but I bet we go watch it anyway, and one for Monsters, Inc which was quite a funny trailer, although the movie is undoubtedly *far* too kiddie.
The movie itself was fairly kiddie, but then again I quite like kiddie-adventure stuff, and at least it was a PG so they felt they were allowed to have such a thing as drama and suspense. Not reading the book first was probably a bonus, as Naath kept complaining about all the bits they'd left out. And best of all, there were lots of cute ickle kiddies... especially Hermione, the amazing walking-encyclopedia girl! Go geeky heros and heroines! (Although they spoilt it by having Harry being good at sport, even if it was a cool sport, it's obvious from him wearing the glasses even after Hermione heals his eyes that he's a born geek...) Had to keep hitting Naath 'cos she was talking too loudly - there's a difference between occasionally quietly commenting on a film, which is nice and justifies going to a movie with a friend rather than going alone, and talking loudly all the way through, which is just annoying.
When the film ended, we dashed off to Costa to try and meet the engineeringy people on time. Costa at 2:30pm - packed, but not with anyone we knew (well, I spotted someone I know vaguely who wasn't someone I was looking for and was with her boyfriend and prolly didn't want to be asked stuff by us weirdos - although Naath was actually looking quite presentable, in black stuff with a big long black coat). So I decided to just turn my phone on and head for somewhere I could get real food at a decent price - Quadrent. They'd run out of what I asked for first (steak-and-kidney pie) so I had a chicken-and-mushroom pie instead, which was decent and food-like and meant I had food and some apple juice and could take some tablets and not keel over and die as I felt like I was about to. Naath decided to continue to talk loudly about HP slash, which I mostly ignored due to being too ill to think.
During the meal I got quite a lot of phonecalls. First up was LeToya, who was calling me to say she was going to be late to Costa, as far as I could make out, so I told her not to worry 'cos I wasn't there either and no-one else had been there when I'd visited. Then the other two called, they were at Costa and wondering where I was, so I told them Quadrent, and they decided to come to Quadrent to meet me. Almost as soon as I'd ended that call I got anohter from LeToya, who was at Costa and couldn't find anyone, so I told her they were heading over to Quadrent. She said she thought she knew where that was, and then I got to finish my lunch. After a while I got another call from her saying she was outside Quadrent, so I just went down and met her. By the time I got there the other two had also arrived, and Naath ran off 'cos she was due to go to work pretty soon and had planned to someday get some homework done.
Costa was full, so we went to a different coffee shop, which I still can't remember the name of. After a quick debate outside about whether it was too posh or not, we just went in anyway - only LeToya actually ordered coffee, Celeste and I went for hot chocolate and Katherine had tea. Had quite a productive talk, really, got more stuff to do for everyone, consolidated our ideas (Celeste and I had a different idea of what we had thought of doing from LeToya and Katherine, so we had to argue them down :-) ), and decided on what we were going to build precisely and what we were just going to research and put in our project report.
We'd just about finished when I saw the time - ten minutes after the time I'd decided earlier that I'd leave at so I had plenty of time to get the train. I said goodbye and set out determinedly for the station - in precisely the wrong direction. Having been corrected by a helpful signpost, I started in the correct direction, skirting the coffee shop so hopefully I wasn't noticed...
I was still a couple of minutes early for the train, so I didn't cut it any finer than I did in the morning (when I got in the car and announced that we had two minutes to get to the train station, I'm rather glad we did cut it so fine 'cos it meant less hanging about on cold station). On the way back, I squashed a major continuity error (well, unclearness rather than *error* precisely) in my Ravine post (wretched convoluted timelines, mutter), in the bit I posted tonight actually so I'm glad I caught it. Phoned parents so they'd come pick me up from the station as it was getting dark.
Once I got home, I crashed out on the sofa, and was informed that my face was about the same colour as my (white) rugby-shirt collar. Sat there for a while, reading the Science Museum Christmas Catalogue, until I felt more alive again.
Just before my parents went out they reminded me to eat and wash sometime this evening. I think I'd better go eat now, before I forget again.
