As usual I don't have much to add to my prompts, but I figure I should at least reproduce them. If you have no idea what I'm talking about - Yuletide is a yearly fanfiction exchange which you can find more details about at
yuletide and/or
yuletide_admin.
Fandom: The Suburbs - Arcade Fire (Music Video)
Characters: Any
This is such an atmospheric piece; I've watched the extended 'Scenes from the Surburbs' version but the short version has all the relevant elements for me. I'm particularly fascinated with the scene with all the characters watching the helicopter through the wire, and with the background / the 'what happens next'; maybe some kind of over-arching narrative that is properly post-apocalyptic, or set in some kind of internment camp; or having Kyle die after the beating and a character piece with the reactions of the other characters to that? I'm not so interested in the romance angle, although obviously it is a theme and it's all good if in the context of the wider background.

Characters: The Kids Standing with their Arms Folded Tight (from "Month of May")
Well, some things are pure and some things are right
But the kids are still standing with their arms folded tight
I find the contrasts between Month of May and City With No Children especially interesting - perhaps, in Month of May, we find the City's children, almost? If you want some starting points, something about the Month of May 'kids' responding to (or living through, coping with, talking about) the lack of future - our age is through, a world war coming - would be great - but please feel free to go wild with this one and surprise me :).

Fandom: The Culture - Iain M. Banks
Characters: GOU Falling Outside The Normal Moral Constraints
I just love this General Offensive Unit so much! I want to hear more about his hijinks past or future, or him playing with more gullible Culture types to keep from utter soul-destroying boredom, or living it large off the fame of his moment of action post-book, or his initial creation and training, or just anything, really :).
----
In general:
I love plot, internal consistency, emotions, terrible things happening to good people, realism, shades of grey, little details; I don't really have limits when it comes to fic, although I'm not that keen on interminable / gratuitous sex scenes unless they're moving the plot along somehow or interesting for some other reason.
If you're my writer or otherwise considering writing for me, Don't Panic :) I am easily pleased - I will be greatly happy to see how any fic in the fandoms I've chosen comes out, regardless of whether it fits any of my preconceptions / usual predilections or not :).
