Last cigarette: never. I can, like, remain alive in the presence of cigarette smoke now if I've kept up with my inhaler, but I still dislike the stuff immensely.
Last kiss: Grandma-kisses on my grandma's birthday.
last good cry: Probably not that long ago, although longer ago than usual. My memory isn't sufficiently chronological to tell me when or why.
last library book checked out: A ton of them. One of them's called Marrow.
last movie seen: The Recruit. For a spur-of-the-moment movie, it was actually quite good, although because it was well-plotted a second viewing might not be so good, because the suspense is gone.
last book read: currently reading Blue Light; last finished Marrow.
Last cuss word uttered: Bugger. On discovering that I should have been at a Nuclear Physics mock half an hour ago.
Last beverage drank: Apple juice.
Last food consumed: 'Bacon' from a Tesco-hot-counter 'bacon joint', which isn't half as salty as this implies. More like very nice ham.
last crush: Elf-boy (horrendous picture, but oh well)
last phone call: Pete and Ju to tell me they were outside (didn't pick up). I can't remember the last call I *made*, it was probably to Olive to reassure her that I was still alive.
Last TV show watched: The first three from the Chronicles of Narnia series, at youthgroup. If you mean 'not from a video', probably The Simpsons, given it's about all I watch these days.
last time showered: In the hotel in the Peak District, before heading off for the LARP weekend. (I take baths, not showers. Baths are more relaxing.)
last shoes worn: Battered 'white' trainers.
last cd played: Suede - Dog Man Star
last item bought: A train ticket; the last item I acquired was a pair of brown 'cargo' trousers, nice ones with big pockets.
last downloaded: Steamband (an Angband varient).
last annoyance: See previous post.
Last disappointment: These trousers would make great kit for Tess... But you're most probably going to Cam, and hence won't get to LARP again, and you're going to miss the next two whatever... *sulk*
Last soda drank: I don't drink 'soda' of any description.
last thing written: Answers to this surveything. LJ entries. Uhm... probably the last storything I worked on was the NaNoNovel, having *finally* found a way out of the 'being stuck in orbit for four months is *too long*, dammit' problem.
last key used: Front door when I got home.
last word spoken: Y'know, I actually can't remember. It was only a few minutes ago.
last sleep: Until about ten past seven this morning, when my mother burst into my room and exclaimed 'that's the third time you've overslept this week! you must set your alarm! rah!'
last im:
last sexual fantasy: I can safely say I don't know.
last weird encounter: My whole *life* is a weird encounter, with this utterly confusing thing they call 'reality'.
last ice cream eaten: Yellowish vanilla, at Pete + Ju's, with chocolate cheesecake.
Last time amused: This.
last time wanting to die: Some months ago now.
Last time in love: Either I've always been in love, or I've never been in love. Take your pick.
Last time hugged: By my mother, not more than a few minutes ago.
last time scolded: This morning, when I overslept...
Last time resentful: Right now, in fact, and the fact I shouldn't be (because it's a *win/win* situation, dammit, not a lose/lose one...) just makes it more annoying.
last chair sat in: There are people who type this not sitting in chairs? The nice comfy purple computer chair.
Last lipstick used: Lovely 'strawberries and cream' super-shiny semi-lip-gloss stuff for my Girlie act at the XF party.
last underwear worn: For once, I'm actually wearing white knickers. I'd been wearing black ones all day.
last bra worn: Nice soft seamless one from... ugh... I can visualise the shopfront and the bra section and everything, but I can't remember the name...
last shirt worn: My mother's purple one, which I stole to wear with my suit. I can't remember what the occasion was now, but I assume it was some form of interviewiness for some university or other.
last time dancing: Last night? Something like that. Either that or sometime yesterday. (I've bounced up and down a few times today, but nothing that could really be termed *dancing*.)
Last show attended: It could've been that awful Badly Drawn Boy concert. Not sure.

Date: 2003-05-24 07:10 am (UTC)From:Stupid maths. I wish that I hadn't got encouraged by being able to do some of STEP II, because then I started thinking I could make it to Cam again, and now I can't do STEP III and hence I can't.
Re:
Date: 2003-05-24 07:25 am (UTC)From:You are a very inteligent young woman and i think you will go far whatever uni you go to but if you do the step III and go cam you will be in your eliment with all the other einstiens and hawkins. Just do your best and that will be good enough for everyone and that includes you. And if some big nose says you cant come if you cant do this sum thats thair loss.
Can i see an example of the questions? Or is that not allowd?

Date: 2003-05-26 11:52 am (UTC)From:Let a be a non-zero real number and define a binary operation on the set of real numbers by
x o y = x + y + axy
Show that the operation o is associative.
Show that (G,o) is a group, where G is the set of all real numbers except for one number which you should identify.
Find a subgroup (G,o) which has exactly 2 elements.
And one I couldn't:
Consider the cubic equation
x^3 - px^2 + qx - r = 0
where p!=0 and r!=0.
(i) If the three roots can be written in the form a(k^-1), a and ak for some constants a and k, show that one root is q/p and that q^3 - r(p^3) = 0. ((I could do this bit.))
(ii) If r = q^3 / p^3, show that q/p is a root and that the product of the other two roots is (q/p)^2. Deduce that the roots are in geometric progression. ((I couldn't do this bit, but I have kind of an idea of where to start.))
(iii) Find a necessary and sufficent condition involving p, q and r for the roots to be in arithmetic progression. ((No clue.))

I didnt have a clue. i think it was part of the accounting stuff with my dads accountant did for me.
And is that the sort of stuff you will have to do at cambridge?
do you have to use that method of guessing the numbers or do you get finite results if you know what your doing?
