I was going to quote some lyrics from the above, but finding myself wanting to quote most of the song, I decided to link instead, as the site doesn't seem to be too evil, which is nice of it.

My mother has a 1386608 whatever-units-POP-uses long message. This is Big. This is not something that OE and Norton want to download for me. It also looks reasonably important. Kas isn't talking to Yamsyn. I am not doing well on the computer front.

Log it to a file with telnet mail.foo.com pop3|tee logfile
(or, better, you could just use tinyfugue and do "/log logfile", "/connect mail.foo.com pop3")

Oh, I know how to *delete* it. That's how I found out what size it was in silly-POP-units. The problem is, we actually would rather like to *have* it, and its attachments. It's just that our virus checker chokes on large attachments...

So turn off the virus checker (having first killed everything but the mail program and made sure your firewall is feeling suitably paranoid), download the file (you may have to save out at this point). Start up the virus checker.

Unless you suspect the email has a virus on it of course.

We got it, in the end. It was the mail server giving up 'cos we were taking too long, so we stopped anything else accessing the 'net and managed to get it through.

Also, retrieving it to a file via telnet is going to get me a large file full of garbage, as it has several attachments. Word document attachments.

The site may or may not be evil, but since it appears to have disappeared from DNS it's hard to tell.

On the other hand this may just be another case of my ISP being crap.
