Disturbing dream-ness.
The night before last, I dreamt I'd been conscripted into the Army. I was in a barracks unit with Helena, and the other recruits hassled her 'cos she wasn't very strong. We tried to make her a bed out in the cupboard so she could sleep without the others hassling her, but the commanding officer caught us, and he beat Helena up and said she had to do better. Then the perspective followed him out, out of the high gates with barbed wire to the road, where he was meant to be taking a shipment of his drug of choice, but the car that pulled up was Helena's family and they beat him up, and hung him by some rope on the fence, but it was thick rope and so when they'd driven off he managed to escape. The focus followed him, patrolling the flat roof around the outside of the complex nervously, noticing the glowing green dishes of the defensive network, newly installed, and in his paranoid imagination deeming them a surveillence system, focussed on him. He paced around the rooftops, becoming increasingly agitated, until he finally snaps. He traces the wires connecting the dishes up to a tower at the corner of the complex, swipes his keycard at the door, and steps inside. After going down a typical sci-fi green-lit corridor (think Borg Cube), he finds himself facing a cyan blue ladder stretching up and curving forwards slightly, leading to a platform above. It is attached to a pink wall, with big Os of raised material - it looks like some kind of plasticy flooring. I guess I could draw it, if I was that bothered. He starts to try and climb, but as he tries to climb the rungs begin to move downwards, counteracting his efforts. He stops for a moment to try and work out what's happening, and the rungs begin, ever so slowly, to creep upwards. He begins to climb again, getting increasingly frantic, but the faster he climbs the faster the rungs move. So he stops again, and begins to move upwards. This time he manages to stay still, but when he gets to the top he tries to scramble over - the ladder goes backwards and dumps him back on the ground. He has to hold onto the ladder and let it take him over the corner. He goes down another green corridor and meets another ladder, but this time horizontal. He starts walking across it, and keeps walking, and walking - this ladder is of the same materials (metal over plasticky flooring) but the flooring is black and white - a collage of (old-style, fully black and white) newspapers and the ladder is just shiny metal. He keeps walking but gets nowhere, and eventually he just has to retrace his steps, because he realises he is going nowhere. I never did find out what happened to him after that, 'cos I was woken up by my alarm clock.
