Purina is a brand-name.
As far as I know they make petfood.. a higher end, supposidly higher quality petfood, but I'm not certain if they make anything else.

Falafel - ymmy greek dish of grains, which is pan-fried til crisp. sometimes served on its own, sometimes in a pita.

sukiyaki, teriyaki - japanese food/condiments, teriyaki particularly is a type of sauce

kabuki - japanese theatre, traditionally (though it may have changed, but doubtful) only men allowed, so men dressed up in drag to play the women's roles.

dashiki - a type of shirt, not sure where the name originates form since it sounds orietal, but the style of shirt is linked with african.

Susquehanna - a river in Pennsylvania, towards the centre.

Lhasa - capital of Tibet, centre of Tibetan Buddhism, long closed to foreingers

loa - A genus of parasitic nematodes found in the rain-forest areas of the Sudan and the Congo

mangel-wurzel - a kind of beet, usually not eaten but used at farmn animal-feed

maturational - the process by which something becomes mature, used in biology, or..like when you make cheese.

Kinshasa - capital of Zaire/Congo

kasha - russian dish, broiled buckwheat

neurasthenia - psychological disorder characterized by chronic fatigue and weakness, loss of memory, and generalized aches and pains, formerly thought to result from exhaustion of the nervous system

oxymora - rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in something being oxymoronic a truthful lie, heh, or military intelligence

pachysandra - agenus of evergreen plants, japanse spurge (used often in bonsai)

parenchyma - higher tissue in plants, usually found in cell walls

hmm, there's a word similar to 'panatela', which is panatela, which is a long slender cigar

papilla - a nipple like protrusion (often called skin tags that develop often on obese people), also the name of where your tastebuds are on your tongue, as well as the scientific term for a pimple..literally the latin word here 'pimple' came from

paronomasia - (this one Marnanel should know ;) making puns, word play

pyorrhoea - oozy pus

proscenia - the area of a modern theater that is located between the curtain and the orchestra

propylaea - the foyer of a temple

prolegomena - a critique of sorts, the intial remarks

ponderosam - mm, there's 'ponderosa' which is type of pine in north america, especially in the west. could that be it?

phylloxera - a kind of aphid that normally attacks grape crops

philodendra - rather common american houseplant which climbs, or has trendils. I'll take a picture of mine for you.

quokka - a kind of wallabe

retsina - a greek wine, normally white that's flavoured with pine

sacraria - the sanctuary or sacristy of a church

sapodilla - naseberry tree! yummy fruit, and the tree it grows in, that's in Maxico and central america

tularaemia - a disease normally carried by rodents that can be passed to people by handeling infected animals

trichina - kind of like ringworm, they infest livestock and worm their way into the muscles

Tirana - capital of Albania

uraemia - a condition where your kidneys retain wastes normally excreted in urin, and it backs up into the bloodstream

yenta - *giggle* old jewish insult, meaning someone who is gossipy and likes to get in other ppl's business (usually only used for women)

zeugma - (another one Marnanel should know this one :) a word construction in which a single word, especially a verb or an adjective, is applied to two or more nouns when its sense is appropriate to only one of them or to both in different ways, as in He stole my heart, and my paycheque.

folderol - silliness

kaki - a japanese persimmon, used to refer to both the tree, and its fruit

saluki - a breed of dog bred in Egypt and Arabia known for having a long silky coat

caravanserai - a large inn or hostel (maybe you heard of this because of it being used for church youth group hostels?)

I love zeugmas. Don't always remember the word for them, but I know it in theory. Paronomasia is a new word for me, though. Thank you.

caravanseri - a place where a caravan would stop. In this sense a caravan is a group of merchants traveling on horse/camel back. It is a large inn type place, Arabian in origin

Mangle Wurzels are presumably a type of crop. They were mentioned in Animal Farm (the musical), I seem to remember.-- we did it at school, I wsa moving scenary.
