I ought to be working, but I feel the need to procrastinate horribly.

I was dreaming two dreams in parallel when I woke up. One was being performed as a play inside the other one.

In the 'inside' dream, various LARPers were attempting to defend a reasonably modern (but rural and backwater-y) village against 'demons', who were in fact shoulder-dragons in bright colours (red, blue and green). (They were like the dragon in Mulan except with slightly more in the way of wings and slightly less in the way of whiskers. They could fly, but shouldn't have been able to with their wings, which still weren't big enough, and indeed they mostly just floated around with the occasional desultory flap.) The LARPers had touch-range superpowers they could use on the demons, which was the only way of affecting them. One character could destroy demons (i.e. actually call damage), one could paralyse them, one could repel them, and my character could paralyse them as long as they were carrying them around (one in each hand maximum).

My character was also the one who kept the mill in working order and generally knew how to fix things, which is why they had rubbish superpowers. There was also an old man at the mill who had no superpowers (played by David/MagicalEric) but looked after the pond, which contained ducks and dodos; one of our main duties was to defend the dodos, which my character spent a lot of time swimming around after and checking the tags on because the other characters were needed to defend the gates and perimeter, and everyone with superpowers could detect demon possession and cast out demons, then I would have to carry them to one of the others for disposal. The 'dodos' looked veyr little like dodos; they were scruffy (feathers like chicks rather than proper smooth bird feathers) brown birds slightly smaller than ducks, supposedly they were dodo chicks or some other species of dodo to the one that was extinct.

There was a gate which was a long rectangular farm gate over the road which is where most of the demons came from. One of the party's sidekicks was in fact a demon, and there was a scene in which one of the newer characters asked the character whose sidekick it was what they were doing consorting with a demon, and the demon explained that it had agreed to help in return for not being killed, and it was handy to keep around for target practice for the less fatal effects. The poor thing sounded unhappy but terrified of things getting worse, although it did so in a cynical and world-weary kind of manner, pretending it didn't really care.

All of this was staged with two roads, one with the gate, some cardboard buildings and a space between them, except for the mill and pond bits which weren't staged because they were the bit where I was inside that dream.

The outside dream featured a large cathedral which was the centerpiece of the town that was at the end of a long journey we had made ('we' being a random grab-bag of mostly non-LARPers which were selected from my history and changed each time I looked at them; many from school and similar). We got there just in time to see the last admitted people go into the cathedral, and to be told there was no more room. Then we walked around the side of the cathedral and found some people we knew sitting by some empty seats by a side door, and they let us in. This scene happened twice, with different people.

Once when we got into the cathedral like that, we then ended up by some ill-defined process sitting right near the front, where we could see the priest preaching some kind of childrens' sermon to the half-dozen columns of children in the amphitheatre seating near the front, and I ended up being an audience volunteer to do something incomprehensible to make some kind of point. This also enabled us to see the play better this time round. (Most of the time, the Cathedral had plays running; they were all middle-episodes of ongoing story arcs. I saw snippets of a couple of others during the dream, which struck me as soap-opera-like and made no sense to be plunged into the middle of.)

Outside of the Cathedral, there was a town much like one side of Balmora in Morrowind on the exterior, which we wandered around for a bit. There was also a scene which I now can't connect up with anything which involved [livejournal.com profile] fthagn following me into a toilet cubicle and trying to set fire to my hair with a cigarette lighter, which for some reason didn't work as long as I defended myself ineffectually by trying to squash the flame with my fingers. There was also an extended chase sequence through an abandoned and half-fallen-down office building whilst florescent lighting flickered ominously and occasionally went out completely or emitted showers of sparks, connected to that scene.

From this I conclude that my subconscious is weird but a lot of fun. (Something that might be of interest: I feel pain and so forth fairly accurately in my dreams, except that whilst dreaming I appear to be wired for masochism.)
