A common phrase: "I'll do it when I get around to it."

"Around to it" sounds very much like "A round tuit".

Hence running out of round tuits means that you can't seem to quite get around to doing anything.

It's also reasonably common to hear people saying they only have square or oblong tuits left, rather than round ones.
