this is kind of a difficult thought to put into words...
do you want to feel happy? or do you just think that you should feel happy because being unhappy is Bad?
i've always found that if i aim to be happy all the time, i don't have much room for events which should make me really happy, so i tend to aim for not-depressed or sort of neutrality. i'm not saying you should do that, though. just that perhaps you're trying to aim higher than your mental wiring allows you to sustain.
that sounds rather preachy, doesn't it? i guess what i'm saying is that everyone has their own emotional resting point and that deviating too far from it in either direction for too long generally has bad results. that resting point can be modified over time by conscious effort or with drugs, but in my experience neither is a good idea unless you are unable to cope.
