General Studies is a fake subject. It's compulsory for pupils of state schools to do either General Studies or Key Skills. Our school do General Studies because it is occasionally counted as an A-level by universities whereas Key Skills is just completely pointless and more work. General Studies mostly consists of writing essays about random things, although it also includes 'comprehension' work like GCSE English and one or two of the papers expect you to be able to read a graph and calculate percentages. It's rather tedious, but also ridiculously easy, because the grade boundries are so low; about 60% for an A.
