1. Why did you choose the background color/image you have?
Because it was the prettiest option from the long list of pictures KDE came with. (It's 'Alien Night'.) I considered several of them (especially some of the black-marble like patterns) but this one met the critera of 'pretty' and 'fairly dark' the best.
2. Why is your toolbar where it is?
It's sitting at the bottom of the screen because that's the default and what I was used to on windows boxen and public computers too.
3. Why are the choices on your toolbar as they are?
Just under half of my toolbar is taken up with nice chunky icons of programs I use the most; that way I can launch things without having to dedicate time or thought to the matter. There's also a taskbar section, which stacks two deep in a helpful manner, and a dock full of junk I barely look at (power monitor, Klipper which I have to prod to make xterm copying work every now and then, some scheduler thing I have no idea what it is, and the Psion Clipboard Utility). Oh, and the all-important clock.
4. What are the desktop icons?
Pretty much default; I can't remember offhand, I don't use them. There's a 'Trash', a 'Start Here' and a '.directory' faded out slightly. I probably could get rid of them, but they're only sitting over a fairly dull piece of starfield.

Currently I have one FireFox (tabs - LJ friends page, Marn's meme entry), one OpenOffice (tutor meeting times, to remind me to rearrange mine yet again), one LogJam (for writing this) and one xterm (currently on ssh-hermes duties).

After having almost done some work today, I'm probably going to make it into town for my supervison, at least; then if the bus runs on time for once, I might even manage to get a shower before I need to get over to New Hall...
