Dec. 24th, 2001 06:24 pmAhh, Christmas.
I didn't actually mind visiting grandparents this year as much, 'cos I'm a bit less stressed about life in general atm. But this year's visits still caused my parents to reaffirm their insistance that I should never go and see them when I'm older merely out of duty, they'd rather not see me at all than see me knowing I've been moaning about them in the car on the way over and have really had to drag myself to do this. And that I especially should never, ever force any children I might acquire to come along.
We do however have a few more days of visits to come, although we've got the most stressful out of the way without them being too apalling. (Today's visit came with a chance to do a spot of cat-watching, so I wasn't too bothered :-) .) And the definition of 'christmassy' in our house (the feeling of being just that little bit too full) has been shown to be apt once again - instead of our normal toasted-sandwiches-all-round, it was cooked chicken, fancy bread and salad (which in a very rare fit of randomness I decided to get all artistic with - we had grapes and mushrooms and carrots and two different types of lettuce, all carefully arranged in a quasi-pretty pattern... the problem with making food look too nice, though, is that then you're scared to actually eat it!). And we have takeaway tonight, which we always eat too much of... (and more people, but they're friends rather than relatives this time :-) ).
Anyway, so far so not-too-bad. Even the shopping this morning wasn't horrendous - the town was much less busy than we expected, although this was mainly because there was hardly anything left, Tesco's having been open since 6am (ick!). And our tree does look pretty (bronze/copper sparkly bits everywhere, and big fat gold and copper colour baubles, yay!).
So, have a not-too-atrocious Christmas, everyone!
