Mm. I'm sure there's something I ought to be doing. And Neopets is being slow for some reason.

Maybe I'll write up a little about the Badly Drawn Boy concert I went to. Tip: Don't go to a Badly Drawn Boy concert. It was awful, although it did get a little better towards the end. The lead singer smoked like a chimney, and the band didn't do too badly with the puffing away either; consequentially they managed to murder most of the songs, especially near the start where the drums were up really high in the mix and the whole thing was muffled, neither of which are optimum conditions for BDB songs. Plus the second support band didn't turn up, and the first support band's CD (which my dad bought because they were quite good) was absolute rubbish.

Neopets seems to be working now.

Deconstruction?

Is that the right word even if it wasnt spelt right?

Could i ask you why you do that? Cos i have friends who take films and music apart and identify it and say "its was poorly directed" and other stuff like that and it really spoils it for me. Why dont people just say i dont like this song or film rather then taking it apart and finding every fault with it? PLease explain this to me cos its is very confusing.

Ive yet to find the global extinction button on neopets, most disappointing ;-)

On the plus side so i dont look like a meen person BDB have done some nice songs that i like. I cant name them but im sure i like some of there stuff.

I don't know why it would help you, as the listener. I do know it's enormously helpful for the producer of the art. For example, I posted the first draft of a story recently, and all the comments I got were "Ooh, nice". That cheered me up, but it didn't help me know what to change to improve the story, or know how to do better in the next story I wrote.

From the listener's point of view, I'm less sure of why I prefer to know how it works and to investigate its structure-- I think perhaps we just have a clash here between romanticism and classical Enlightenment modernism, and that's that.

[ So, what exactly don't you like about dissecting your response to things? :) ]

She has to, otherwise someone'll come along and ask what was wrong with it.

It's tough having a friendslist (or rather, 'friend of' list) like Michelle's, but she rises to the challenge.

(More seriously, if you don't like something I find it worth grappeling with why. It means you can learn from it to avoid making the mistake if you ever do something like it, and it means you can seperate out the stuff that was bad, so that you can appreciate the remainder).

Sorry but i dont agree with that if i dont like something i dont waste any more time on it trying to find out why. Ist a waste of my time trying to justify it to others and even more of a waste of time trying to justify it to myself. I find the concept of deconstruction compleatly against art of any form be it music, film or art (you know paintings and stuff).

Sorry cant remember names now the screen has changed but someone said something about wanting feedback on something they were in the process of making. Thats diferent cos it is unfinished and you want to make it better based on what people think about an unfinished thing. But something that is finished like a painting or a film of some music is unlikly to be changed based on what you dont like about it. If i dont like something i just accept that and get on with my life.

Im not trying to get at anyone here but i fail to see what deconstruction of a finished product achives.

And im sorry Michelle if this isnt what you wanted to hear from that post.

Even if a person isn't going to adjust the finished work in question, are you sure that they are never going to engage in any creative endevour in the remainder of their life?

Learn from your mistakes, even your finsihed ones ;-)

I actually like this type of dissection. It can really enhance the understanding and appreciation of a subject/art-form etc. I hate to have the dissecting discussion during the event, but after the glow of appreciation is over then I am ready.

I do not want to be in the middle of a movie, a good meal, or enjoying a concert, and have someone interrupting my experience with their analysis.
