Nah, expecting the worst of the future is pessimism. Poor self confidence is expecting the worst of you.
You can have absurd self-confidence but be pessimistic: it's the position that assumes you'll be magnificent but the universe will conspire against you to spoil it all. It's a terribly arrogant position.

P.S.: You might want to note that these reasons are not valid reasons for arrogance and that ego is bad, currently you could be misread as claiming that you had every grounds to be proud because of your faith (Hopefully I don't need to quote Paul on this one ;-)).
