chess: (angry)
Every time I have a Pure maths lesson, it reminds me just how bad I am at Further Maths. I'm not sure I even *want* to go to Cam (where I will have to do lots of nasty maths) if maths is this horrible and painful to deal with.

I also have chocolate and pen marks all down my jumper, and my hair is a mess. I look like a complete slob. And I'm not even intelligent enough to get away with it. (Points at paragraph above for all those people who insist that I am intelligent.)

And I still have no UCAS offers from anyone, and no interview dates. It looks like I'm probably going to be cancelling the Christmas holidays for revision purposes, too. I'm not meant to have to revise! Grr!

You have no idea how many times I have refrained from punctuating this with all the swear words that are prolifically scattered throughout the same thoughts in my mind. I am not a happy Chessypig.

I haven't even got any acknowledgement of anything from Jim, but I'm scared of sending him another email because he might think I'm being pushy or impatient.

Bah. Why can't I stop caring about things?

aw *huggles*. It happens to all of us from time to time... your brain really will decide to come back eventually.

You are intelligent. That doesn't mean you have to find everything easy.

Ceasing to worry.

Worrying is annoying. But that's life, it has a habit of improving with time. Feel better. It'll all come together.

Nah, maths isn't that horrible or painful to deal with.

It is *far* more excuriating, nauseating and headache inducing than anything you meet at further maths.

But don't worry, you're not doing a maths degree. Natscis cover the intresting topics (or at least some of), but they don't expect you to do insane things on the examples sheets with them.

"I'm not meant to have to revise!"

Yes you are! The rest of us have to, I fail to see why you should be exempt. (I'm going to get a B doing no revision. Well duh.)

Sorry to hear about the UCAS offers. I can't really remember when I started to get stuff back. Certainly it didn't finish until some way into the new year.

I suspect Jim is just waiting to get things back from everyone (I'd not worry, Jon and I filled our application forms in like the last two months before the holiday).

"Bah. Why can't I stop caring about things?"

Beacuse you aren't totally morally bankrupt; because you aren't on the level of a psycopathic mass murder? (That's a rhetorical question ;-).)

Neil

"You have to be cruel to be kind" (does this statement make any sense? It certainly isn't formally true, you can be kind without being cruel. Infact generally it's easier ;-)).

Sounds as though someone ought to come in, gently brush out that hair, and take some time to braid it for you while you have your equivalent of hot cocoa (my personal comfort drink.)

Chess, one of the curses of being bright is that it's an awful shock the first time you run into something that isn't easy for you. It doesn't mean that you're not bright after all (you are) or that you've come to the end of your intelligence (you haven't.) It just means that you're going to have to put more work than you're used to into this particular variety of math. I remember having moments like this in trig and calc, over stuff that I could do later with both hands tied behind my back. (Stuff which, I hasten to add, I couldn't do now if my life depended on it, which fortunately it does not.)

Remember to take some breaks during your studying. You don't have to figure it out all in one go. As a matter of fact, you'll learn it faster, and be less inclined to spend a lot of time avoiding, if you deliberately cut your study time up a bit. Schedule some time to do other things (like run away to London *smile*) and some stuff that you like.

Also, keep in mind that "intelligence" means many things. I'm married to a man who is extremely intelligent in an area (personnel management and training) that is in high demand, and which occurs fairly rarely, but who would be completely lost in your maths class and can't spell worth a damn. My younger brother could handle your maths class, but would be lost with the writing you're doing, but shows his real intelligence in organization (he has it, I do NOT) and in an amazing mechanical intelligence.

Straighten up, young one! Stop whinging about how you are not intelligent, have some fun, go back and apply yourself to that math, and I'll race you to the end of NaNoWriMo. I bet mine turns out more horrible than yours!
