Oh, the first part's easy. I'm Ian and I live in New Zealand, although I'm English, grew up on Merseyside, studied in Oxford and Liverpool and worked in Birmingham before leaving Britain.
Second part is trickier, but not much. There's a nifty LJ feature that let's you find people most similar to you based on interests and things, and you are apparently the person scond most like me. The first three are lara7, chess and lexin, all of whom have found their way onto my friends list, becasue I have found that their posts are worth reading.
It's a paid user only feature, so you may not have seen it. However, the three users most like you are apparently marnanel, naath and napoleonherself - any or all of those names sound familiar? Yes, they're all listed on your recent post of all your friends. Let's keep going... 4th is phlebas - yes, 5th is sath - yes, 6th is tinjuko - no, 7th is cremlian - no. So it looks like you're already in touch with the top few LJers like you, which is probably because they seem to know you IRL, but you might have a look at some of the others.
Hope you had an enjoyable birthday - hope you enjoyed the steak, chips and mushrooms. We had fish and chips from the local chippy down the hill.

All but napoleonherself of the friended ones I do know IRL. I would know her IRL if she wasn't inconveniently situated in America. (We found each other in the first round of find_sim, when it was open to all users.)
