It doesn't directly pass you on - the attitude they take is that the projects (and the amount of support that ppl get from the companies) are so different that awarding places would be a Bad Thing. So what you get is a sheet with your results and the average result on.
They did recommend we went in for the Young Engineers of Great Britain competition, which does pass you on through rounds, though.
