My house has been invaded by scary people! (decorators come to make the spare room Sunshine Yellow.)

Had P2 today. Twas easy. Naath found a link for 'Pern/Discworld crossover slash' by searching for 'discworld "slash fanfiction"'. We didn't check it out because fanfiction.net is filtered from school, and she'd promised not to read lots of slash in front of me anyway.

Uhm, that's about it for life right now.

The capital letters on that paint colours sounds.. a little ominous..
And how *Do* you get Naath to not read slash in front of you?

[identity profile] firinel.livejournal.com 2002-06-14 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
what would be the problem with her reading it in front of you anyway, unless she's reading it outloud?

I don't think most slash I've seen comes illustrated, so maybe you wouldn't notice if it was slash she had on her screen or not.

I've not got a problem with most of it, but I remember Chess used to get disturbed by it. Mind you Naath's taste is a lot wider than mine, I don't like harry potter for instance, and she does like the graphical stuff, so yes, you can see what she's looking at..

if its graphical, isn't it just porn then, not slash?

[identity profile] sath.livejournal.com 2002-06-14 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's still slash. Pictures of snape and whoever engaging in something painful.. definately slash.

The art I tend to like isn't that explicit... the stuff I read is.

Chess' problem isn't the existence of it, it's me sitting reading a 700 page document while she watches.. and I tend to pick up 1/2 way through something that I was reading previous so she can't even read it (not that she wants to anyway)... she gets bored...

So I did spoon, and deleted email...

lol.

I just wasn't aware that there was graphical slash, I suppose. I have to admitt that it was only just this year that someone informed me what slash actually was, and I believe I only asked because either Sath or Naath were talking about it on SP.

decorators, or just painters?

The us/uk distinction frustrated someone else. I hate painting walls a flat colour, and he'd say 'but I thought you want to be a decorator?!' and I'd say 'decorators don't actually do the painting! they charge far too much to have them doing mundane things such as handeling paint rollers!'

here, decorators are high-paid skilled labour, where as house painting is something college students get summer jobs doing. The decorator tells you/suggests what colour is painted - the painters actually apply it.

Fortunatly[1] 'decorators' as you describe them are almost entirely unheard of in this country (there are some on the TV. They blatently lack taste).

Neil

[1] I suspect some of you are going to object to that choice of word, however it's what I mean, and if you don't like it, that's your problem.

If you think a decorator lacks taste its one of two things:
1) you have no taste, or
2) you've got the wrong decorator.

or wait, there's a third:

3) you didn't season her/him properly before you cooked them.

[identity profile] passage.livejournal.com 2002-06-14 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I'm afraid my cooking still isn't great, I'll have to practice more. Thanks for the seasons tip.

(lemma: Case 2 always applies.
This is a trivial corrolary of the theorum that all decorators have bad taste[1]).

Neil

[1] No, I refuse to let 'bad taste' not being well defined stop me. Yes, that does make it all gibberish.

Err, I haven't left myself a leg to stand on have I?

(In my defence: I didn't get to bed very early last night).
